I didn’t even know Posters had been made for this event! So that was a surprise, but wicked!

For Hallowe’en, my friend Rima and I dressed up as Kanye West and Taylor Swift!

For those of you who may not be up and hip with the latest pop culture references this idea is a direct quote to an event that happened during the VMA’s this year. Taylor Swift, a 17 year old country-pop singer, was awarded best female music video. Not only is she young, but she is also the first country artist to receive the award. Aka BIG MOMENT. While she was about to say her acceptance speech, Kanye West walked up on stage, took her microphone and said “Taylor, I’m really happy for you! I’ma let you finish, but uh… Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time! OF ALL TIME!”
Hands the microphone back to Taylor, and walks off stage… it was ridiiiiiculous and everyone was really upset with him. BUT UH…… Anyways

Rima and I decided we would do our best to reinact the duo. And this was our artist photo representation of what happened at the VMAs.

BTW, For those of you who aren’t taylor fans… no she doesn’t dress like that on a normal bases, but I chose to be the character she plays in her award winning video

I made the following video tonight from some images which my friend Sylvia and I took for our Digital Media class.

The assignment was to take 20-30 shots, and individually relate a narrative with them.  My teacher compiled all 18 students still images into an “experimental video” and we watched how everyone’s compositions combined into one quick movie. I took the images which Sophia and i took and compiled our two pieces to make this sequence video. Its just for fun!

We were feeling hungry so we combined snack and project into one!

“Gunther” (A Moment From My Time In Vanuatu)

Sept 7, 2008 Sunday

“It was Stacey’s first morning after sleeping in the hut. She was a little freaked out.

After breakfast we were going back to the hut and Stacey, who is massively afraid of spiders, spotted a LARGE spider in it’s web, attached to our hut. Quickly, like the kindred spirit she is, Stacey named him Gunther. We took her camera out and documented his existance. Stacey ran off to stand in safety, and then I walked over to Roselyn’s and mentioned the spider and that it was really high up. She said all we had to do was hit it with a bamboo stick. She walked into the bushes, grabbed a bamboo, and then knocked Gunther down. She picked him up, and then squished his body. Then she cleared away some of the comparatively smaller spiders.  Then i told Stacey that the coast was clear.

She walked over, and we arrived at the spot where dead Gunther was, his body started to twitch!!!!!

I told her it was just the nerves, but then Gunther, half bodied and all, planted his legs and began trying to walk forward!! Like a carcass coming back from the dead!

STACEY FLIPPED! She screamed and we went running in the opposite directions! Her screaming, and me laughing! ”

The image is compiled using 3 main photographs I had taken while in Vanuatu. One of the tree in the main field at the school I was working at, another of gunther, and lastly a hybiscus flower. I took apart the images and then rearranged them in a different orientation while still remaining to true to the original photographs! To me it feels explosive, and that is how I remember the sound of tat laughter/screaming. It was memorable and beautiful!

WELL! Basically it is a compilation of videos which semi-document the time I spent in Stratford, Ont and during my time in the Studio recording! I’ve recieved a lot of comments from people asking what happened while I was there, and if I had any videos to show etc etc. So I thought I would start this series.

I will be posting up Installations of “For The Record” periodically, leading up to the release of the album in December. That way, those of you who want more of a “backstage pass” on what happened during that process can see what was goin’ on! And also maybe have a greater appreciation for the work that went into making the whole thing!
